Dark Matters in Portland Shoot | Wit & Whimsy Creative
The ladies of Dark Matter Kits in Portland wanted some photos showcasing their brand and man did they go to the right photographer. Summer kicked ass in this creepy woodland photo shoot.
Here is what she had to say:
"The girls behind Dark Matter Kits contacted me to see if I'd like to collaborate with them on taking some photos to help showcase their brand and alter egos - part ethereal, part modern-day witch, part creepy as-F, naturally I said, "Hell, yes!" I grew up living in a haunted house watching horror movies, next door to an old cemetery and doing my share of seances with my friends - I'm a total believer in the paranormal so this was my opportunity to reconnect with my inner tween who ate up anything that gave me goosebumps. A departure from my regular work, this gave me an opportunity to tell a darker story where ethereal creatures walk the earth and show their beauty and also their incredibly spooky nature. We met at Whitaker Ponds Natural Area in Portland, OR for the styled shoot due to it's swamp area of twisted branches and moss covered pathways. The girls showed up in white, vintage, Victorian dresses, black wigs, a horned mask, a skull, spirit board, velvet blanket, silver goblets and a black cake - a gothic picnic was going to transpire, a happy surprise for me. They danced barefoot through the woods, called the spirits, posed underneath a weeping willow and completely emerged themselves in their persona. The result was a dreamlike shoot where these forest wanderlings came to life. Things were creepy, strange and downright weird, but hey, this is Portland right?"
Hey Hey! I'm Summer, a photographer based in the PNW. I'm a self proclaimed toddler wrangler, light chaser, adventure seeker and day dreamer. I specialize in lifestyle + portraiture photography for adventurous and fun-lovin' families and couples but love to get creative so I'm usually down to get weird or dirty..or stand on a mountain top to get the right shot. Life is too short to be boring, so laugh a little more and get out and explore.
