BOSS BABE INTERVIEW | LILAH HIGGINS
THIS NEXT SPOTLIGHT IS OUR BOSS BABE INTERVIEW WITH BABETOWN E RETREAT EDUCATOR LILAH OF THE HIGGINS CREATIVE!
TBC: Can you tell us a little about you?
Lilah: I’m a wife to my high school best friend and a mom to two toddlers. I run a brand design company called The Higgins Creative, where I work with my husband and an amazing team of other creative entrepreneurs. We founded the #waketomake hashtag and podcast where we encourage people to design lives that they love.
TBC: What was the driving force behind your starting your business?
Lilah: I wanted to discover a way to sell my art, on my terms and in my own way. What started as a desire to make some side income, turned into our full-time gig and the love of our lives.
TBC: What is the best piece of business advice that you’ve ever received?
Lilah: Marie Forleo said it best that discontent is the beginning of progress. It means you’re aware and alive and yearning for more which, in turn, means you’re about to make some serious progress.
TBC: What does a “typical” day look like for you. Who do you work with? What projects are you normally working on?
Lilah: I wake up (preferably before the babes do) and make coffee, read some of Jesus’ words and check in with my fb ladies, and fry some eggs for the family. On days the babes wake up before me, I hear cartoons in the living room and find hot coffee on my bedside from my love.
TBC: We’re sure that working on different branding projects with a variety of clients can be exciting and also stressful. How do you stay inspired and refreshed?
Lilah: I try to keep a mix of different projects going at the same time and I balance that with building courses and working in the business areas that I want to improve. I also try to take weekends off (except when in launch mode) and take a few afternoons totally focused on the babies.
TBC: We know that in addition to your design services, you also offer some fantastic courses. At what point in your business did you decide to start offering them? What’s been your favorite thing about them?
Lilah: I decided to start offering them when people were inquiring, but couldn’t afford my prices. I wanted to create an option that was affordable, but still filled the needs they were expressing.
TBC: We know you create logos, stock photos, brand fonts, color schemes and so much more for your clients. But we’re sure you have a favorite part of your design work, what is it??
Lilah: Probably watching it all come together. Style guides are my ULTIMATE favorite. I’ve even worked with brands that are now apps and have designed entire live events and it’s a totally blast to keep everything on brand, while expanding on the schemes and style we established.
