Whimsy Engagement | with the Stirewalts

This engagement session is one for the books (or the blog!). We are excited about outfit changes, scenery switch, and fun laid back vibes. The Stirewalts show us (again) how it's done! Mackenzie and Matt are two gorgeous people in love and we couldn't be happier for them- and to show it off!

We’ve learned that when you take the time to get to know the couple you are photographing— I mean really get to know them and the dynamics of their relationship before you even pick up a camera— the result is a correspondingly dynamic shoot that reaches depths built on comfort, trust, and ease. We love to take an organic approach getting to know couples— whether that’s over coffee or dinner to build up those relationships and see where we connect. Mackenzie and Matt are the kind of people that make you feel like pure gold; they have this contagious energy about them that is so telling of their sweet yet seemingly effortless relationship.

Planning was minimal: we had a beautiful couple, two primary locations, and some stunning light to work with. The rest simply fell into place. Mackenzie pulled together a few outfits— comfy and casual neutral tones to start with and then sparkly and elegant sophisticated look. Her gold, sequin top paired with the vibrant pop of green in her maxi skirt left us in awe, as it perfectly complimented Matt’s classic suit and juxtaposed their beauty to the grungy garage. The posing to the editing style gave a huge range: the natural location lended toward some gorgeous light and airy yet vibrant photos, while the parking garage allowed for some incredible harsh lighting contrasts and a moody, dramatic, elevated style.

Above all else, we think the connection showed through most. Matt and Mackenzie were fully in their element just being themselves, and the photos translate a very simple, laid back, fun kind of love. We can’t get over how gorgeous they are, but even more importantly how genuine they are and what great friends they have become. And for us, that’s what it’s all about.

We are a husband and wife photography duo with hearts for people and adventure. While the majority of our weddings are destination/travel, we are based out of the greater Charlotte area. To us, the most important aspect of the art is the people behind it and the stories we tell for them.
